East Palestine keeps pace in league



Springfield and Jackson-Milton secured Inter-County League wins.
HANOVERTON -- The East Palestine High softball team won at United for the first time in 10 years, upending the Eagles 12-9 in a Tri-County League game on Tuesday.
"I am happy for the girls, said Bulldogs coach Dan McKinstry. They came back today and showed that they could get even with them."
The Golden Eagles (11-2, 6-2) rallied to beat the Bulldogs 4-3 in eight innings Monday in East Palestine.
Jenn Yokley, who doubled twice, hit a two-run double for East Palestine (12-3, 7-1) in the second inning of Tuesday's game and she hit a two-run single in the sixth when the Bulldogs scored six times.
Katie Browne also hit a two-run single during the sixth inning.
Chelsea Peterson, who worked four innings and Allison McMillen (4-1), who came in the fifth inning to pick up the win, combined for nine strikeouts.
Springfield 10, South Range 5
NORTH LIMA -- Senior Krista Snyder (6-1) had 12 strikeouts and two of Ashley Fagnano's hits were doubles for Springfield (6-3, 5-0) in an Inter-County League game.
Fagnano finished with five RBIs, while Christy Warren had three singles and Whitney Yaeger two hits and two RBIs.
Autumn Carter went 3-for-4 and had an RBI while Megan Beachley, Heather Stacy and Chelsea Leson each had two singles for Range (1-9-1, 1-5 ICL).
The Tigers own an earlier 13-5 win over Range.
Jackson-Milton 9, Mineral Ridge 8
NORTH JACKSON -- Laura Yash doubled and tripled to lead Jackson-Milton, which rallied from an 8-0 deficit.
Krista Kiraly singled and tripled, while Carrie Fiol and Jessica Balent also had two hits for the Bluejays (9-7, 3-4 ICL), who scored four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth.
Heather Reinhart had two triples and Courtney Skiba had a double and a triple for Ridge (3-8, 3-3).
Western Reserve 3, Lowellville 1
LOWELLVILLE -- The Blue Devils (9-3, 6-1), behind 1-0, went ahead to stay when they scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Stevie Banks (7-1) worked a complete game with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win. Ellie Sanders hit a pair of singles.
Losing pitcher Carla Blinsky (7-1) also pitched a complete game for Lowellville (8-4, 2-4) and had a pair of singles. Stacey Garcia also had two hits.
Mathews 3, Brookfield 2
VIENNA -- Mathews' Alyssa DeJean (2-2) scattered six hits with nine strikeouts and did not walk a batter in a non-league game.
She also hit two singles. Caitlyn Youngs hit two doubles, a single, drove in a run and scored once for Mathews (9-3-1).
Cody Brennen hit a pair of singles and scored once for the Warriors (0-10).
Minerva 2, West Branch 0
MINERVA -- Meghan Simons pitched a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead Minerva (5-4, 4-3) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game.
Lyndsey Todor gave up just three hits in a losing effort for the Warriors (3-10, 0-7).
