Gonda's 7 hits power sweep; JFK wins



Warren Harding won a league game while Fitch won in South Carolina.
STRUTHERS -- Eddie Gonda had seven hits, including five in Monday's second game, as Youngstown Christian swept Jefferson County Christian, 10-1 and 21-4, at Cene Park.
Gonda had two hits, including a double, in the opener, while Ray Vitelli singled twice and Aaron Agresta tripled.
Sophomore Nathaniel Setnick (1-0) struck out five in his first career start. He allowed just one hit, a single by Randy Sells in the third inning.
In the second game, Gonda had five RBIs while A.J. Tate -- who doubled twice -- and Agresta added three each. Jack Mocker, a freshman making his first start, struck out five in the five-inning game.
Youngstown Christian improved to 5-4 while Jefferson County Christian fell to 1-6.
Warren JFK 11, Wilson 4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Marc Rossi's five hits included a triple and three doubles. He also scored three runs.
John Baker had three hits and two RBIs for the Eagles (7-3, 3-1 Steel Valley Conference). Tim McBride hit a two-run double.
The Redmen are 2-7.
Warren Harding 10, Beaver Local 1
LISBON -- Tom Popadak struck out 15 and allowed just three hits in a complete-game performance for the Raiders (9-3, 2-0 SVC).
Caullen Owens doubled and singled for Warren. Willie Sekula also hit a double for the Raiders, while Ryan Romack, Matt Smith and Popadak all singled twice. Romack and Smith drove in three runs each and Popadak had two RBIs.
Fitch 13, Immaculate Heart (N.Y.) 1
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- John Mock and Nick Ritchie each went 2-for-3 as Fitch (8-2) won the first game in the Hawaiian Tropic Classic.
Sophomore Steve Gruver (3-1) pitched four innings of one-hit ball, striking out seven, to get the win.
McDonald 4, Sebring 3
MCDONALD -- Corey Vukovic doubled home the winning run in the last of the fifth inning for the Blue Devils (7-5, 5-1 Inter-County League).
Jon Springer homered for the Trojans.
Springfield 15, Lowellville 1
STRUTHERS -- John Houser (3-0) threw a one-hitter in five innings for Springfield at Cene Park.
Todd Kibby knocked in three runs while Chris Martin had two RBIs and scored three times for the Tigers (9-1). Travis Richey added two hits in one inning.
The only hit for Lowellville was John Wilaj's triple in the second inning. The Rockets committed 10 errors.
East Palestine 9, United 1
EAST PALESTINE -- East Palestine's Jake Harvey went 4-for-4 and scored twice, Travis Newman had three hits and scored three runs and Pat Figley added two hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs (11-2, 6-1 Tri-County League).
For United, Rob Mulhlman had two hits and Tyler Boyle added a single and two stolen bases.
Crestview 13, Southern 1
SALINEVILLE -- Senior Devon Gout had two singles and two RBIs for Crestview (7-4, 3-1 TCL).
The Rebels had three home runs, including two-run shots by seniors Mike Wylie and Colby Henderson and a solo homer by junior Matt Petrosky.
Joey Kazear had an RBI single in the fourth for Southern.
