Ferree's 10 RBIs propel Fitch



Ursuline senior Ashley Koval just missed throwing a perfect game.
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Kate Ferree drove in 10 runs with two triples and two doubles Monday as the Fitch High softball team defeated Proctor (N.Y.), 11-1, at a South Carolina tournament.
Winning pitcher Kara Warren (3-8) struck out 11 batters for the Falcons (4-8). Meredith McHenry had three hits while Staci Balkan and Kayla Mazerik had two each.
In the Falcons' 4-3 victory over Kenmore East (N.Y.), Sam Kozbial's two hits included a two-run double.
Heidi Soriano (1-1) tossed a three-hitter. Her two hits included a triple. Danielle Crum doubled.
Campbell 11, East Liverpool 7
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Behind 5-4, Campbell scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead and stay ahead.
Victoria Steiner tied the score at 5-5 before freshman Erica Melnik came across with the go-ahead run for the Red Devils (3-6, 1-4 Metro Athletic Conference).
Junior Delilah Benedis had three of Campbell's 12 hits and four RBIs while winning pitcher Briana Koval, a sophomore, had four strikeouts.
Ursuline 15, Chaney 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior Ashley Koval was a walk away from pitching a perfect five-inning game in the Steel Valley Conference game at Wick Recreation Center.
Koval allowed a walk to Chaney's seventh batter -- Lisette Encarnation -- in the third inning.
Koval recorded five strikeouts and all of Ursuline's putouts were in the infield except two. At the plate, the Irish (8-6, 3-2 SVC) had 11 hits.
Encarnation is a freshman for Chaney (2-8, 2-1 SVC).
Junior Natalie Palermo tripled, homered and drove in three runs.
Also for Ursuline, senior Vannessa Dickson had a home run and two singles for three RBIs while junior Mary Hendricks had two singles.
Mooney 25, Rayen 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Kelcie Herberger's five hits included a triple and a double for first-place Mooney (9-2, 3-0 SVC). She also scored three runs and drove in four.
Monique Irwin hit two doubles and scored four times while Meghan Williams, Mara Palombaro and Laura Guyer hit doubles.
Colleen Courtney, Herberger and Williams combined to toss a no-hitter. Rayen is 1-5, 0-3.
Lowellville 9, Brookfield 7
BROOKFIELD -- Carla Blinsky's out-of-the-park solo home run was the first of six runs in the top of the seventh inning when Lowellville battled back before holding off Brookfield's final assault.
Stephanie Yankle's single drove in Kristen Pallozzi and Sarayna Svetlak with Lowellville's last two runs. Pallozzi and Svetlak are juniors.
Blinsky, a junior, threw 11 strikeouts and gave up four walks for the Rockets (8-3), who committed eight errors.
McDonald 11, Sebring 9
McDONALD -- Behind 9-8 after the top of the fourth inning, Lauren Walls and Courtney Vitullo knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs for McDonald (6-4, 2-2 ICL).
In the bottom of the fourth, Tomisa Sangregorio singled and stole second.
Kelly Rutushin's grounder advanced Sangregorio to third before Walls singled to score Sangregorio for a 9-9 tie.
Walls stole second before Courtney Vitullo doubled her home for the 10th run. A passed ball allowed Vitullo to moved to third before Andrea Robison grounded out to score Vitullo.
Sangregorio and Vitullo, both seniors, had three hits apiece for McDonald. Vitullo finished with three RBIs while Walls and Rutushin had two apiece.
The victory avenged a 5-1 loss to Sebring last month.
For Sebring (5-5, 2-5 ICL), Kirsten Schaffer had three hits and Jordan Henderson and Chantel Fox had two apiece.
United 3, East Palestine 2
EAST PALESTINE -- United's Alisha Syx hit a game-winning single with one out in the top of the eighth to score Erin Briceland in a Tri-County League game.
Briceland also tripled for the Eagles (10-1, 6-1).
Becky Hill had three hits and Chelsea Peterson had two for the Bulldogs (11-3, 6-1).
Crestview 17, Southern 0
SALINEVILLE -- Christie Lower singled, doubled and tripled, while Angie Workman and Katie Richards each added three hits for Crestview.
Mallary Pflugh doubled, tripled and drove in a run and Chelsea Cox had two hits.
Chelsee Anderson had two hits for Southern (0-11, 0-7 TCL).
