Courtney is area's best in Boston Marathon



BOSTON -- S. Mark Courtney of Grove City, Pa., was the top finisher in the men's 50-59 age group at the Boston Marathon Monday.
Courtney, 50, finished in 2 hours, 46.44 seconds, and was the top area finisher in the event.
Five members of the Youngstown Road Runners Club participated in the event: Terry McCluskey, 57 of Vienna, who finished in 2:56.10; Tom Grantonic, 44, of Boardman, 2:58.24; Phil Hovanic, 47 of Salem, 3:16.10; Karen Grantonic, 43 of Boardman, 3:50.56, and Carolyn DeChristofaro, 56 of Niles, 4:34.52.
Other area runners who participated were Michael Smith, 37 of Canfield, 3:07:34; Dan Kubacki, 41 of Austintown, 3:17:39; Brian Hubert, 32 of Youngstown, 3:19:57; B.J. Yeropoli, 29 of Campbell, 3:49.30; Stephen Begezda, 51 of Poland, 3:57:10; and Tom Magnone, 54 of Liberty, 5:45:48.
