Cardboard is recycled, trustee says
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weatherfield Township Trustee Fred Bobovnyk says he made a mistake last week in saying that cardboard collected from township residents is being taken to a landfill and not being recycled.
Bobovnyk sent an interoffice memo Monday to let the other trustees know that he misspoke when he said were no recycling places to handle cardboard from Ohio communities.
Trustees have taken over paying $68 a month for pickup of cardboard at the township administration building, where recyclables are being collected, since the Trumbull-Geauga Waste Management System lost its funding for recycling cardboard.
The township pays Phoenix Disposal Inc. of Youngstown to pick up the cardboard and recycle it.
Trustees had asked for input from residents on whether to continue paying for pickup of the cardboard, but Bobovnyk said the subject will have to be discussed again at the May meeting since it was determined that the items are being recycled.
