11-year-old passenger dies after van crash

The driver has a temporary permit.
AUSTINTOWN -- The 11-year-old passenger in a minivan that crashed Friday on Interstate 680 has died.
Alexandra Jones of Copley died at 4:15 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Health Center. She was not wearing a seat belt in the minivan, which was driven by her 151/2-year-old sister, Natasha Jones, also of Copley.
She is the second person to die from injuries suffered in the crash. The sisters' grandmother, Connie Whiting, 67, of Clearfield, Utah, died at the scene. She had been seated in the front seat and was wearing a seat belt.
Natasha, who has a temporary permit, was driving south on the Interstate around 9:25 a.m. Friday when she lost control and drove off the left side of the road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Canfield post. She overcorrected, coming back onto the road and the van flipped and slid off the left side of the road, coming to rest on its roof, the patrol said. The road was wet, but it was not raining at the time, the patrol said.
Natasha was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.
Other passengers
Also in the van were Mrs. Whiting's daughter, Shauna Jones, 37, of Copley and Shauna Jones' other children, Jessica Jones, 14, and Spencer Jones, 3, both of Copley. Shauna and Jessica Jones were treated at the hospital; Spencer was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending consultation with a prosecutor, the patrol said.
