Dana Showcase Concertwill feature ensembles
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Friends of Music Association, in conjunction with WYSU-FM and the College of Fine and Performing Arts of Youngstown State University, will hold the 16th annual Dana Showcase Concert at 8 p.m. April 26.
The concert will be in the new Ford Family Recital Hall located in the DeYor Performing Arts Center, downtown.
It will feature ensembles from the Dana School of Music, including the Dana Wind Ensemble, the Dana Chorale, Opera Workshop and the Hard Bop Jazz Quintet.
This year's honoree is Ellen Satre, who has served as president of the Friends of Music since 2001. Sponsors include Patricia and Harry Syak, Mary B. Smith, Mary Alice Schaff, Dale Schmidt of Daybreak Music, Barbara H. Tinkham and Bruce and Nancy Beeghly. Proceeds benefit the Dana Scholarship Fund.

Play revisits protestin Nazi Germany
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The plight of German women married to Jewish men during the rule of the Third Reich will be explored when Slippery Rock University's theater department presents, "Rosenstrasse," a Terry Lawrence play offered in five performances in Miller Auditorium.
Tickets are $5 for the 8 p.m. performances April 26 through 29 and the 2 p.m. April 30 performance, and may be obtained by calling the Miller Auditorium Box Office at (724) 738-2645 from noon to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Set during World War II, the play points out the German rule in such situations was to obtain a divorce, but the play's women elect to rally at their husband's prison in peaceful protest.
Senior Follies returnswith variety show
CORTLAND -- SCOPE Inc. of Trumbull County will hold the 2006 Senior Follies at 7 p.m. April 29 and at 2 p.m. April 30 in Lakeview High School Auditorium. The Follies, which combines singing, dancing and theater, is the largest annual event SCOPE sponsors each year.
The 2006 version, titled "Forget Your Troubles," is an original production, written and directed by Jason Burgermeyer.
Master of ceremonies will be popular local entertainer Bill Lisby, a comedian and ventriloquist.
Guest artists include Carol Bovee, who will perform "Can't Give You Anything But Love"; Audrey Freeman, piano solo; and Jane Christopher and Carol Bovee, with the opening song.
Other performers will include: Senior Sensations, the Howland SCOPE Silver Stars Tappers, Ladies Night Out Jazz Dancers and the SCOPE Rhythm Band.

Chorus wraps up season
BOARDMAN -- The Seraphim Chorus, under the musical direction of Kris Harper, will present their final concerts of the season, "Give My Regards To Broadway," at 6 p.m. May 6 at Mary, Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle, Pa., and at 4 p.m. May 7, at First Covenant Church, corner of Shields Road and Glenwood Avenue, Boardman.
The New Castle concert will be performed in a dinner-theater format. Tickets are required. The Boardman concert is open to the public and a free will offering will be received.
The concert will feature Broadway hits from the 1930s to the present. James McClellan, will be the featured guest artist. Also featured will be vignettes provided by performers from Move Over Broadway Productions under the direction of Marlene Strollo. Kathryn Miller is the accompanist. MUC Choir concertALLIANCE -- The Mount Union College Choir will present a concert entitled "Of Believing, Of Swinging and Of Parting" at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Presser Recital Hall.
The Mount Union Choir is among the nation's oldest collegiate choirs, tracing its roots to 1896. One of five choral organizations at the college, the Choir is the institution's premiere choral ensemble.
The Choir also has had a long history of choral recordings and was among the earliest U.S. college choirs to release concerts on record. "Purple" is the latest recording by the choir and will be available for purchase on CD in the lobby of Cope Music Hall following the concert.
