SCHOLARSHIPS For college students



Here are some special-interest and academic-honors scholarships for college students to consider:
Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship: This federally funded program offers merit scholarships to outstanding high school seniors who have been accepted at an institution of higher education. Students can receive a $3,000 scholarship -- $1,500 per semester -- for the 2006-07 academic year with the possibility of renewal for an additional three years. Applicants must rank in the top 5 percent of their high school graduating class or rank first, second or third in a class of 60 pupils or less. They must have a 3.5 grade point average and a combined SAT score of at least 1150; a composite American College Testing score of 25 or above; or a GED score of 3550 or above. Applications are available from high school guidance counselors. The deadline to apply is May 1.
Cambridge Home Health Care: The agency is offering four nursing school scholarships of $1,000 each, one LPN and one RN scholarship to current Cambridge employees and one LPN and one RN scholarship to nonemployees who live in a 19-county region of Ohio, including Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Applicants must be a current LPN or home health aide/nurse's aide and be in the process of enrolling in LPN or RN school. Two written recommendations from current or past employers and an essay on why the applicant wants to be an RN or LPN are also required.
