SHARON, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Community Library will host its annual wine and cheese fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave. Special guests will be local artists who will display their works. Each artist has donated one piece which will be raffled off the night of the party to benefit the library. Recycle Nos. 1-5 plastics
WARREN -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District has begun to accept additional plastic recyclable materials. The district will accept plastics with Nos. 1 through 5 on them. Previously, the district accepted plastics No. 1 and No. 2. Plastics are identified by looking at a recycling symbol on or near the bottom of the container. The number is contained inside the symbol. Honorary garden bricks
MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Courthouse Memorial and Honor Garden committee will accept submissions for honorary bricks through April 27. Bricks can be given as presents or used to honor an organization or person. The cost is $53. Each brick may have three rows of print with 17 letters per line. All money collected will be used to maintain the gardens on the north side of the courthouse. The goal is to maintain the gardens without public funds. For information, call (724) 662-3490.
Temporary closing
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Savannah Road in Shenango Township will be temporarily closed Monday. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be replacing large cross pipes from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The work is scheduled for the area 2,000 feet north of the Union Valley Road intersection. During the closure, traffic will be detoured onto Pa. Route 2012, west to Pa. Route 168, north to U.S. Route 422, east to Pa. Route 65, then south back to Pa. Route 2001. About 936 vehicles use roads in this area each day.
The project was originally scheduled for April 10, but PennDOT postponed the work until this coming Monday because necessary equipment was not available. PennDOT advises motorists to expect changing traffic patterns and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
Culvert replacement
AUSTINTOWN -- The Mahoning County engineer's office will close Silica Road between North Turner and Victoria roads Wednesday to replace a culvert. Traffic will be detoured along Turner Road, Victoria Road and Mahoning Avenue. The road should be reopened Thursday.
