HONOR Masons to present community service award



YOUNGSTOWN -- Robert M. Brienik of Youngstown will be the recipient of the 2006 Community Service Award to be presented by the 24th Masonic District at a dinner to be held Saturday at Byzantine Center at the Grove.
The award will be presented by James M. Williamson, top Ohio Masonic officer, who will also present Excellence in Youth awards to Walter David Ryan Hartsock of Boardman and Emily A. Hays of East Liverpool.
Brienik, a U.S. Army veteran and retired General Motors Corp. employee, has accumulated more than 20,000 hours of volunteer service with the Department of Veteran's Affairs at Youngstown Outpatient Clinic and Brecksville Medical Center since 1992. He is responsible for the interviewing, placement and administration of 291 volunteers, and since 1998 has been a volunteer driver and coach for blind veterans attending the Blind Veterans National Golf Tournament. He is also a volunteer coordinator at the World War II Vehicle Museum and Leaning Center in Hubbard.
A lifetime member of AMVETS, Brienik serves as president of Youngstown-Warren Marine Corps Coordinating Council, and is a member of Congressman Tim Ryan's 17th District Veterans Committee and the Welcome Home Desert Storm Veterans Committee.
Brienik and his wife, Carol have been married over 43 years and have two sons and one grandchild.
Youth award recipients
Hartsock is a graduate of Boardman High School, where he was a member of the National Thespian Society and chairman of the Drama Club Show. He is a member and master councilor of Youngstown Chapter of DeMolay, assists with state initiates and is the recipient of the Ohio DeMolay Scholarship award.
Hays is a sixth grader at Westgate Middle School, where she sings in the choir and is on the honor roll. She is a member of Job's Daughters, a member and recorder of Bethel Guardian Council 61, and a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she is an acolyte and greeter.
