Cardinal fire district wins HeartSafe award



CANFIELD -- Fire Chief Robert J. Tieche announced that the Cardinal Joint Fire District was named the recipient of the 2006 HeartSafe Community Award.
The Emergency Medical Service section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Medtronic Inc. will present the award during Fire-Rescue Med on April 24 and 25 in Las Vegas.
This award recognizes departments that have implemented successful Public Access Defibrillation programs with unique and creative ideas. The award is given in two categories: one for departments representing populations over 100,000 and another for departments representing populations under 100,000.
Cardinal was selected from 25 fire departments across the country with population areas under 100,000.
Winners of the 2006 HeartSafe Community award receive an engraved crystal award, recognition, an all-expense paid trip to Fire-Rescue Med and a LIFEPAK & reg;AED donated to their agency from Medtronic.
Chip Comstock, fire chief of Western Reserve Joint Fire District, nominated the Cardinal Joint Fire District for the award.
