AMERICAN LEAGUE Konerko leads White Sox
Seattle, Oakland and Baltimore also won games.

CHICAGO -- Paul Konerko homered twice off A.J. Burnett to spoil the right-hander's Toronto debut, giving the Chicago White Sox a 4-2 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Konerko hit a tie-breaking two-run homer in the fifth -- his second of the game, fourth of the season and third in two games.
Burnett (0-1), who signed a five-year, $55 million contract with Toronto after spending seven seasons with the Marlins, gave up seven hits and four runs in six innings while walking one and striking out five. He started the season on the disabled list after scar tissue broke off in his elbow during spring training, delaying his first start with his new team.
He pitched well, but Mark Buehrle was a bit better on a cool and sunny 57-degree day.
Buehrle regroups
Buehrle (2-0) had a shaky first inning when he gave up a leadoff infield single to Reed Johnson and then a two-run homer to Alex Rios. After Vernon Wells reached on another infield hit to extend his hitting streak this season to all 11 games, Buehrle settled down and got the next three hitters, ending his 25-pitch inning.
Burnett, who threw 30 of his 95 pitches in the first inning, issued a two-out walk to Jim Thome in the opening inning before Konerko followed with a two-run shot to left to tie it up.
After Chicago pitchers yielded 39 hits and 22 runs in the previous two games, Buehrle gave the White Sox what they needed. In the sixth after Rios walked and Wells had another single, he escaped by starting a double play on Troy Glaus' batted ball to the mound and getting Bengie Molina on a pop fly.

Mariners 3, Red Sox 0
BOSTON -- Joel Pineiro and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout and the Seattle Mariners took advantage of two passed balls as the Red Sox continued to slump at the plate.
Catcher Josh Bard had trouble handling Tim Wakefield's knuckleball in the third inning, when the Mariners scored all their runs. Boston, which led the majors in runs each of the past three seasons, has scored four or less seven times in 11 games.
It was a rare success for Pineiro (2-1) against Boston. In his other eight starts against the Red Sox he was 2-5 with a 7.71 ERA, the highest against any team he's faced. But on Saturday he gave up five hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 61/3 innings.
He worked out of trouble in the first two innings -- leaving two runners on base in the first and escaping a bases-loaded no-out jam in the second -- and allowed just two hits in his last 41/3 innings.
He left with runners at first and second and one out in the seventh, and J.J. Putz retired the last two batters.
Putz pitched a perfect eighth and finished with four strikeouts against his five batters.
Eddie Guardado pitched the ninth for his second save in two opportunities.

Athletics 5, Rangers 4
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Eric Chavez, Frank Thomas and Milton Bradley homered on three straight pitches in the sixth inning, and the Oakland Athletics snapped a four-game losing streak.
Chavez led off the inning with a shot into the right-field seats, Thomas followed with his 451st career homer and third of the year, then Bradley connected to chase starter Vicente Padilla.
The last time a team homered on three straight pitches was Sept. 29, 2001, when Fred McGriff, Rondell White and Todd Hundley did it for the Cubs against Houston's Dave Mlicki at Wrigley Field, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
It marked the eighth time the A's have hit three straight homers and the first time since June 23, 2000, against Kansas City -- when Randy Velarde, Jason Giambi and Ben Grieve accomplished the feat.
The home runs came minutes after Phil Nevin had given Texas the lead with a three-run homer off Rich Harden.

Orioles 3, Angels 2
BALTIMORE -- Erik Bedard pitched eight strong innings to earn his third win, and the Baltimore Orioles used a three-run fifth to beat Bartolo Colon and the Angels.
Colon (0-2) gave up only one earned run in seven innings, but the 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner now has gone three starts without a victory. Colon did, however, lower his ERA from 12.86 to 7.07.
Bedard (3-0) allowed eight hits and two runs, striking out four and walking none. He has a 2.25 ERA in three starts and is tied with Boston's Curt Schilling for the AL lead in wins.
The left-hander came in 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA in three career starts against the Angels.
Chris Ray worked the ninth for his fourth save in four tries.
