Zoning panel sets hearing on changes to vehicle rules

One vehicle at a time can be put up for sale on a property.
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Weathersfield Township Zoning Commission will forward several amendments to current zoning regulations to the Trumbull County Planning Commission for its approval.
The township commission will hold a public hearing on the amendments at 6 p.m. May 10. If approved by the county commission and the local commission, they will be forwarded to the township trustees.
Trustees must hold a hearing on the amendments within 30 days and approve them, for the changes to go into effect.
One of the amendments involves unlicensed vehicles and vehicles that are wrecked or damaged. It says only one vehicle at a time can be put up for sale on a property; it must have current license plates; and the owner must be able to provide proof of ownership.
Vehicle for sale
If a vehicle is for sale, it can be parked only in the driveway, the front yard or a designated parking space on the property, such as a turn-around or a gravel drive. The vehicle must be operational, and a "for sale" sign must be clearly seen from the road and displayed inside the vehicle.
Another amendment, to current regulations on temporary signs, requires that signs can be no larger that 25 square feet and can be placed no closer than 25 feet to any street or traffic surface. The sign also cannot cause any vision obstruction.
One amendment approved includes a definition for a recreational vehicle -- which is a motor tractor, trailer, travel trailer, truck camper, boat, bus or motor coach.
Township zoning inspector Sherri Craver said that such vehicles have always been permitted in the township under zoning regulations, but they must be parked or stored in the rear or side yard of a residence. As a motor vehicle, they can also be parked in the driveway.
