Quote/unquote
"People come up to me and introduce themselves all the time now. There have been a few young ladies who've come up to me. It's not a bad deal. I'm going to be swatting women left and right now. They're going to be lunging at me ...[I'm] kidding." -- Former "American Idol" contestant Kevin Covais, on his "sex symbol" status, on EW.com.
"They wouldn't cast me -- there'd be no contest. I'd have to be one of the professional dancers." -- Donnie Wahlberg ("Saw II"), on what he thinks of "Dancing with the Stars," in People magazine.
"I was always more of an athlete than a reader. But in high school, I discovered Ernest Hemingway when I had to do a [book report] on 'The Old Man and the Sea' for English class, and I loved it. Since then, I've probably read it 25 times -- no lie." -- Kenny Chesney, in Teen People magazine.
Drum festival jobs
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Drum roll, please! George's Drum Shop, 2091 Front St., will hold its third annual Drum Festival from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 29 at Falls River Square Amphitheatre and Pavilion, covering two blocks with a variety of events and attractions.
Festivities will include a parade at 11 a.m., a drum set solo competition, "World's Fastest Drummer" contest, all-day hand drum circle, local bands, celebrity drummer performances, ethnic drum group performances and a drum show featuring exhibits and demonstrations by manufacturers, vintage drum collectors and custom drum builders.
One of the largest drum shows in the nation, the free event is a fun visual, aural and tactile experience. Promoter and drum shop owner George Lawrence says," This event is not just for drummers, but for civilians (non-drummer) as well. It's a hands-on festival for the whole community. We like to encompass music and musicians in general."
Rock, jazz, country and gospel bands are invited to submit applications to perform at the festival. Sales and information booths are currently available, as ar parade entities. For information, call (866) 970-0800 or go to www.georgesdrumshop.com.
