Paver hired for S. Range Road

NEW SPRINGFIED -- Springfield Township trustees have hired Butch & amp; McCree Paving to pave South Range Road between state Route 170 and State Line Road.
The Hillsville firm was the lowest of four bidders, offering to do the job for $66,937. Other bidders were: Shelby & amp; Sands, Girard, $73,440; Cleveland Asphalt, Bessemer, $94,554; and Hysong Paving, North Canton, $79,573.
Road Superintendent Richard Kennedy said the job could get under way as soon as next week.
In other business at their meeting Wednesday, trustees:
Approved the fire department's spending up to $25,000 for a new compressor and $8,000 for new air bags. Fire Chief Brian Hughes said the compressor is badly needed because the current 28-year-old compressor does not have the capacity to fill the department's 4500-psi air packs. The packs have to be taken to other fire departments to finish filling.
Hired Atty. Robert Tscholl of Canton as legal counsel for township negotiations with the newly unionized road department. He will be paid $100 per hour, with the charge not to exceed $6,000.
Accepted two grants from Mahoning County's Green Team: $2,235 for the fire department to buy traffic and safety signs, and $1,118 for recycled pipe for the road department.
Approved paying $10,040 to Enforcement Products Inc., Plano, Texas, for in-car videos for two police cars and $2,496 to Expert Outfitters, Boardman, for duty weapons for officers.
