Lakeview shuts out Brookfield
Jaclyn Carpenter pitched a two-hitter as Champion blanked Girard, 9-0.
CORTLAND -- Abbey Bensing and Kailynn Cerney teamed up to toss a two-hitter Thursday as the Lakeview High softball team defeated Brookfield, 6-0.
Maggie Marmion's two-out single in the fourth inning broke up Bensing's no-hitter. Bensing, a freshman, struck out eight batters and walked one to improve to 4-1.
Brittney Bucco drove in two runs for the Bulldogs (11-1, 5-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference) with a bunt single and a fielder's choice.
Champion 9, Girard 0
GIRARD -- Jaclyn Carpenter pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 12 without walking a batter, to lead Champion.
Carpenter (3-1) added a home run, a double and three RBIs for the Flashes (9-2, 5-0 TAC). Hillary Beachy, Kasey Karr and Emily Hayes each added two hits.
South Range 6, Lowellville 3
LOWELLVILLE -- Senior Heather Stacy had a single and a double and sophomore Autumn Carter had South Range's only other hit, but the Raiders (1-6, 1-4 Inter-County League) benefited from nine Lowellville errors in notching their first win.
Winning pitcher Alexis Binder, a senior, gave up five hits and struck out eight.
For Lowellville (7-3, 2-3), Carla Blinsky had a triple and a double and Jacque Schrader had two singles.
Mathews 2, Columbiana 0
COLUMBIANA -- Caitlyn Young (6-1) fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks for the win. Amber Jarvis hit a pair of singles and drove in a run, while Alli Stein hit two singles and scored a run.
Canton South 4, West Branch 0
BELOIT -- Canton South scored all of the game's run with a four run rally in the fourth inning of the Northeastern Buckeye Conference contest.
West Branch's Lyndsey Todor allowed just four hits and struck out seven. Winning pitcher Sarah Becker tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts. Allie Maggiore hit a two-run triple for Canton South.
Bristol 5, Bloomfield 0
NORTH BLOOMFIELD -- Heather Lodwick pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts to pick up the win for the Panthers.
Angela Hennessey (0-2) pitched a complete game for Bloomfield (0-6, 0-5 Northeastern Athletic Conference) with six strikeouts.
