Kelly's single lifts Niles past WGH
Canfield stayed unbeaten in the MAC with a 7-0 win over Poland.
NILES -- Mike Kelly's single in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in the winning run Thursday as the Niles High baseball team defeated Warren Harding, 6-5.
Kelly had two other singles and finished with two RBIs for the Red Dragons (12-1). Anthony Roberts and Kyle Pitts each had two singles.
For the Raiders (8-3), Ryan Romack and Will Sekula had three singles apiece while Andy Dobson hit two singles.
Canfield 7, Poland 0
CANFIELD -- Joe Fox worked a complete game with seven strikeouts for the Cardinals (8-1, 5-0 Metro Athletic Conference).
Joe Rosko hit a double and a single while Kyle Banna and Dan Moran hit a pair of singles apiece.
Matt Pitzuollo hit a double and a single for the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-2).
Leetonia 4,Youngstown Christian 3
LEETONIA -- Aaron Valentine pushed across Ryan Gruszecki with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning for Leetonia (4-6).
Valentine, a junior, had two hits and two RBIs while Pat Russell had one hit and two RBIs.
Gruszecki, a sophomore, gave up three hits before being relieved by Jon Williams, who gave up one hit and earned the save.
Aaron Agresta doubled for Youngstown Christian, which had a 3-2 lead before the Bears scored two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Mathews 3, Badger 210 innings
VIENNA -- Phil Ciprian singled in the bottom of the 10th inning, stole second base and scored on Rich Woolf's single.
Ben Mackall's first inning homer put the Mustangs (4-6, 3-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) ahead, 1-0. The Braves tied it when Jake Dunbar was thrown out trying to steal second base, allowing Marcus Heath to score from third base on the throw.
Heath's seventh inning put the Braves ahead, 2-1, in the seventh inning. Luke Weymer's RBI single forced extra innings.
Collier pitched three innings of one-hit ball to get the victory. He also hit a double.
Maplewood 8, Lordstown 4
CORTLAND -- Losing pitcher Brian Wickline (2-2) scattered four hits, with eight strikeouts, but was plagued by four walks and three errors in the bottom of the seventh inning when Maplewood (5-2, 4-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) scored seven runs.
Thirteen players batted for the Rockets in the seventh. Jared Partridge and winning pitcher Craig Clemson (2-0) hit singles. Mike Finch reached base on an error with Partridge and Clemson scoring. Chris Tucker and West Wiltrout walked to load the bases. Roce Magdych reached base on an error, scoring Finch. Brian Dawson's sacrifice fly sent home Wiltrout. After a strikeout, Partridge walked. Clemson reach base on an error that scored Magdych.
Nate Rech hit three single for Lordstown (2-5, 2-4), while Wickline hit a double and single with two RBIs.
