Ursuline wins pitchers' duel at Cene Park



Canfield and Niles earned shutout victories.
STRUTHERS -- Ryan Satterlee singled home Joe Wielbruda in the third inning with what turned out to be the winning run, as Ursuline High defeated Beaver Local, 1-0, in a pitchers' duel at Cene Park Wednesday in a Steel Valley Conference baseball game.
Pitcher Ross Revella of Ursuline (7-2, 2-1 SVC) bested Nick Muscari of Beaver Local (2-7, 2-1) as both pitched two-hitters over the distance.
Revella (1-0) registered 10 strikeouts while Muscari retired 11 batters in a row during a span in the game.
Warren JFK 14, Chaney 4
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ryan Mulvey had a three-RBI triple in the fourth inning as the Eagles scored seven runs in that frame to take control in a SVC game.
Mulvey finished with four RBIs and Dominic Lapolla had three for the Eagles (6-3, 2-1 SVC). Lapolla, Marc Rossi, Brian Guarnieri and Tim McBride each had two hits.
For Chaney (1-7), Sam Shaffo and Kevin Barron each had two hits.
Mooney 5, Wilson 3
YOUNGSTOWN -- John Mayo had two singles and two RBIs and Dan Gallagher two singles and one RBI to pace Mooney in a SVC game at Pemberton Park.
Pat Kelley got the mound win for Mooney (6-7) with relief help from Roberto Morales. They combined to pitch an eight-hitter.
For Wilson (2-6), Kevin Newberry socked a solo homer while Andre Figueroa had two singles
Niles 10, East Liverpool 0
NILES -- Anthony Ragozine pitched a two-hit, five inning shutout as Niles improved to 11-1.
Robbie Porter led the Red Dragons' 13-hit attack with three singles and two RBIs, while Joe Razzano, Anthony Roberts and Mike Kelly all had two hits. Roberts drove in five runs and Kelly had a double.
Nate Howard and Nate Blackburn had the only hits for East Liverpool.
Howland 8, Salem 6
SALEM -- Howland scored seven times in the first two innings then held off Salem.
The Tigers (8-4, 3-2 Metro Athletic Conference), had a three-run homer by Jared Bartholomew in the first inning and a two-run blast by Tony Pozega in the second. Ben Leece also homered for the Tigers.
Salem (4-5, 1-5) had a solo home run by Bryan Wright, who also was the losing pitcher.
Canfield 12, Struthers 0
CANFIELD -- John Pitzulo had two doubles and two RBIs, Joe Fox had two hits and an RBI and C.J. Morris had two hits for Canfield (7-1, 4-0) in a five-inning MAC game.
Brett Grabman added two RBIs and Steve Schoenfeld (1-1) pitched a two-hitter over five innings, striking out three.
Mike Barone had both hits for Struthers.
Poland 8, Campbell 7
CAMPBELL -- Jim Pasquine's single pushed across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth for the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 MAC).
Pasquine was also the winning pitcher in his first game.
Matt Pitzulo reached base five times and scored three times, Pasquine had a double and single and Jim Petrolla had two singles.
Lonnie McQueen fanned seven strikeouts but allowed eight hits in a losing cause for Campbell. Junior Rich Tisone went 2-for-3 with a double, freshman Leo Bonillia went 2-for-4 and Dan Sacui tripled for the Red Devils (1-7, 0-3).
