Teen arraigned in shooting
WARREN -- A Commerce Avenue Northwest man was arraigned in Warren Municipal Court on one charge of felonious assault after a shooting in Warren Township.
Willie Dawson, 19, appeared for video arraignment Wednesday before Judge Thomas Gysegem. He pleaded innocent, and his bond was set at $75,000. If convicted of the felony charge, he faces from two to eight years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
Warren Township police said they were called to WCI Steel early Tuesday because a man had been shot. Police said James Carter, 28, of 158 Miller St., told them that three men came to his house, pulled a gun and tried to rob him.
There was a struggle with a gun, and Carter was shot five times, police said. Carter ran from the house and made it to the WCI plant, where police were called.
Carter identified Dawson as the gunman, police said.
The two other suspects have not been apprehended, said Lt. Don Bishop of the Warren Township police.
Carter was treated at St. Joseph Health Center.
Judge Gysegem said Dawson will have a preliminary hearing within 10 days, and he is to have no contact with Carter.
