Silvestri, Sikora power Spartans



Lowellville's Vince Simon had a five-inning one-hitter in his first start.
BOARDMAN -- Dom Silvestri hit safely three times while Kevin Sikora had two hits including a double to lead the Boardman High baseball team to a 5-0 win over Uniontown Lake in a Federal League game on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless through four innings before the Spartans (6-1, 2-1) scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the sixth.
Fitch 8, Canton McKinley 5
CANTON -- The Falcons (6-2, 2-1 FL) built a 8-0 lead, then held off a late rally by the Bulldogs (4-4, 1-2).
Steve Gruver (2-1) worked six innings with 11 strikeouts to pick up the win. Nick Wiery hit a double and a single, scored three times and stole two bases. Mike Rose hit a pair of singles.
Mooney 11, Campbell 6
STRUTHERS -- Tony Brunetti went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice to lead Mooney, which rallied from a 4-3 deficit in the fourth.
Dan Gallagher added two hits, two RBIs and two runs for the Cardinals (5-7), while Pat Kelley had two hits, two RBIs and scored a run. Scott Smith (1-0) won his first varsity start, striking out seven in four innings.
Lonnie McQueen had a single, two RBIs and scored a run and Ryan Burton added two hits and scored a run for Campbell (1-6).
Lowellville 13, Chaney 0
LOWELLVILLE -- Sophomore Vince Simon struck out eight and walked one in a five-inning one-hitter -- his first start this season.
John Opincarne had a solo home run and a single for two RBIs, Jared Donatelli had two singles and two RBIs and Jim Sudon had two doubles and two RBIs for the Rockets (6-2).
Sam Shaffo had Chaney's lone hit in the third inning.
Warren JFK 9, Mathews 5
WARREN -- Warren JFK junior Tim McBride's leadoff single in the fifth started a four-run rally that snapped a 4-4 tie.
McBride also had two singles as did junior Josh Swipas for the winners (5-3). John Baker, a senior, had a two-run bases-loaded single in the fifth.
Ben Mackall had two doubles for Mathews (2-6).
