Officials look at replacing building
HILLSVILLE, Pa.-- Mahoning Township supervisors have agreed to seek funding for a new township building.
Supervisor Gary Pezzuolo said a preliminary set of blueprints has been drawn up for a building to replace the current township building on U.S. Route 224, which was built in 1948 and remodeled several times, most recently in 1963. The new building would stand behind the current one, which would be demolished.
The township building has a leaking roof, lack of space, bad flooring and bathrooms that are not handicapped-accessible, Pezzuolo said.
The plan also calls for the Community Center, located across the parking lot from the township offices, to be sold, if possible. But supervisors must first find how the building's construction was funded in order to determine whether it can be sold.
The building would be too expensive to remodel into township offices and is too expensive to heat during the winter. The center was built in 1982 on land donated by U.S. Steel.
The park and the ball fields, which are located behind the community center, would not be affected if the building is sold, they said.
In other business at their meeting Tuesday, supervisors agreed to buy a bed for a 1991 International Truck from low bidder C & amp;R Trailer, Pulaski, for $6,131.
