Notebook keeps mom's recipes in one place

Dear Heloise: It was great to meet you at the Network Power/Texas (25th anniversary dinner in San Antonio last year. I gave a short speech -- Heloise). I really enjoyed your clever and creative comments before the meal, too, and I wish my speech students had been there!
I was off by a few years on the item I told you that your mom printed when I was a kid, but my mother and I managed to locate it. It was published on June 10, 1975. My mom's clipping was from the Long Island (New York) Press. I think I actually started this notebook when I was several years younger, but the clipping was published when I was a teenager. Here is the text:
"Dear Heloise: I have a great idea for school-aged gals ... and guys, too. I took a notebook and divided it into equal sections. These were labeled main dishes, cakes and cookies, breads, meats, etc.
"Whenever my mother cooks something that I really enjoy, I copy down the recipe in my notebook. Right then, not later when I will forget it.
"When I leave home to go to college or wherever, I will have my own tried-and-true cookbook full of Mom's recipes. It seems that there are always things that only your mother can cook right. I will have all of her little secrets and can then start adding my own." Laura Rauchut, via e-mail
Laura, it was a pleasure meeting you. It was such a kick to hear that you started a personal "Mom's recipes" cookbook as a young girl. I bet it's a real treasure today. Heloise
Dear Heloise: We recently visited an old neighborhood pizza place and were told by the owners about the best way to reheat a slice of pizza, and I wanted to share it with you.
Heat a small amount of olive oil in a heavy or nonstick pan. Place the pizza slice in the pan, taking care not to burn the bottom of the pizza as you reheat it (I've even used this hint on pizza that is a few days old). It tastes like it just came fresh out of the pizza oven! So much better than the microwave. A Reader, via e-mail
Leftover pizza is one of my favorite snacks! Here's a Tasty Tidbit: Did you know that more than 2.5 billion pizzas are sold yearly in our 50 states? That's a lot of pie! What do you think the favorite topping is? The answer is pepperoni. All this pizza talk has put me in the mood for a slice! Heloise
Dear Heloise: When you have a lot of gravy left over after cooking a turkey, etc., freeze it in a clean ice-cube tray. After it freezes, just pop the cubes out, store in a freezer bag, and they will defrost in a microwave fast, whether using one cube or many. Cora Westmoreland, Bryans Road, Md.
