Bottom of lineup gives Lakeview boost in win

CORTLAND -- The bottom three batters in the Lakeview High softball team's lineup provided the spark Tuesday in the Bulldogs' 6-2 victory over Newton Falls.
Senior Kelly Moore and sophomore JoAnna Novotny had two hits each for the Bulldogs (9-1, 3-1 Trumbull Athletic Conference).
Moore, Novotny and Angela DiCesare, a sophomore, knocked in two runs apiece for the winners. One of Novotny's hits was a triple.
Jessica Connell had two hits for Newton Falls (6-3, 2-2).
Liberty 8, Brookfield 7
LIBERTY -- Freshman Kacey Kurtz struck out Rachel Baker with the bases loaded, two outs and a full count to end the game in the top of the seventh inning for Liberty, which had seven errors.
Brookfield pulled within 8-7 when pinch-hitter Brittany Hiner singled, advanced on Courtney Christy's single and scored on Mary Palumbo's double.
At the plate, Kurtz, the winning pitcher, had two hits and an RBI; freshman Brianna Palumbo had three RBIs; sophomore Jessie Szakacs had two RBIs and sophomore Megan Kay had two singles for Liberty (1-5, 1-4 TAC).
Palumbo, the losing pitcher, also singled for Brookfield (0-6, 0-4 TAC).
Girard 4, Badger 0
KINSMAN -- A two-run second inning was all the Indians (3-7) needed as they shut out the Braves.
Sarah Mostov scattered six hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win. Nikki Petrarca hit a double and single and scored twice, while Hillary Patterson hit a pair of singles for the Indians.
East Palestine 15, Wellsville 1
EAST PALESTINE -- Junior Chelsea Peterson had a two-run homer and pitched the victory for East Palestine (9-1, 6-0 Tri-County League).
Also at the plate, Peterson (7-1) had a single. On the mound she struck out three, gave up one hit and one run (unearned) over three innings. Reliever Allison McMillen struck out four in two innings.
McMillen, a junior, also doubled in two runs in the fourth inning.
Wellsville's Erin Mick had three singles and had the lone RBI for the Tigers (1-8, 0-6).
East Palestine's only defeat was a 4-3 loss to Berlin Center Western Reserve during the second game of a doubleheader.
Leetonia 11, Southern 7
SALINEVILLE -- The Bears won despite surrendering 19 walks and hitting another batter.
Ashley Coy had three hits and two RBIs while Megan McCallister and Sara Weikart each had three hits and a RBI.
Katie Garwick doubled while Brittany Schrode had two hits. McCallister was the winning pitcher.
For the Indians (0-0, 0-6 TCL), Hannah Crews singled to drive in two runs. Emily Ramsey also had a hit.
Carrollton 8, West Branch 1
CARROLLTON -- Bri Benedict had two hits and Becky Rinyo added an RBI for West Branch (2-7, 0-5 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Chelsea Sheets and Kristen Richards each had three hits for Carrollton (7-2, 4-1).
