Lakeview board plans sports hall to honor athletes from 3 schools
CORTLAND -- The Lakeview Board of Education has announced plans for a sports hall of fame.
Board member Donna Zuga said it will honor athletes from Cortland, Lakeview and Bazetta schools.
A committee has been formed to head the project, which is being developed in conjunction with the Lakeview Athletic Club and Lakeview Athletic Boosters.
"This is history, our history, our tradition. We're really looking forward to this," said Zuga.
The committee will look for members in three areas: athletes, coaches and community members and alumni. Organizers hope to induct the first class at a November banquet.
Nomination forms are available in the Lakeview High School Athletic Office and will soon be available on the school Web site, http://www.lakeviewlocal.org.
The committee also hopes to create a display for Lakeview athletic trophies, along with plaques for athletic achievements.
Fred Kunar, committee member and Lakeview High principal, said he hopes the group will bring the community together to recognize its rich history and tradition.
Committee members also want to commemorate the 30-year anniversary of the Lakeview Bulldogs' 10-0 season with a fall football game involving alumni.
