Fitch wins with aid of wildness
Canfield swept a doubleheader from Upper Arlington.
AUSTINTOWN -- Dave Diyorio led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch to give Austintown Fitch an 11-10 win over Lakeview for a sweep of a doubleheader Saturday at the Falcons' field.
Fitch rallied twice from 5-10 and 10-5 deficits with a pair of four-run innings to finally come out a winner.
Jason Lutz gained the mound win in relief while Diyorio finished with three hits, including two singles. Joe Koch added a double and four singles and scored three runs while Joe Burnich had three singles.
Mark Novotny finished with a double and single, two walks and two RBIs to lead Lakeview, while Jon Mullins had two singles and scored three runs.
In the opener, three of Fitch's four runs were unearned as the Falcons prevailed, 4-2, behind a five-hitter from Greg McGlynn and reliever Jason Lutz, the latter getting the save.
Justin Lutz took the loss for Lakeview despite a five-hitter over the distance. James Bagoly had two singles and one RBI to lead Fitch.
Dave DeJacimo led Lakeview with his first home run of the season, while Steve Miller belted a triple.
Canfield 2-12, Upper Arlington 0-9
UPPER ARLINGTON -- Kyle Banna had a double, three singles and four RBIs, D.J. Haurin added a double, single and two RBIs and Joe Fox had a two-run single as Canfield beat Upper Arlington, 12-9, to sweep a doubleheader.
Upper Arlington is 3-5.
In the opener, Fox threw an eight-hitter with seven strikeouts over the distance as Canfield (4-1) emerged with a 2-0 victory. Fox is 2-0.
The Cardinals got their two runs on Banna's run-scoring single and a passed ball. Drew Turocy had a double and single for Canfield while Paul Ruchtie also starred at the plate.
Boardman 7, Howland 4Boardman 8, Mooney 7
BOARDMAN -- Richie O'Brien and sixth-inning reliever Jeff Olenych combined to pitch a five-hitter for Boardman against Howland in the Spartans' first game of the day.
Ed Deluca had three singles, Joe Iacabucci a double and single and Anthony Porter two singles for Boardman (4-1).
For Howland (4-1), Manoli Pahoulis and Tony Pozega each had two singles.
In Boardman's second game, Mark Cartwright had three singles while Anthony Porter and Armani Johnson added two apiece to lead the Spartans over Mooney.
Boardman (5-1) won with a single run in the last of the seventh inning. Corey Susany got the mound win in relief.
Mooney is 4-6.
Warren Harding 9, Hubbard 5
WARREN -- Deandre Ware had two hits, two RBIs, stole three bases and scored a run to lead Harding (7-2), while Brennen Dolan also had two hits. Tom Elder (3-0) struck out two in three innings of scoreless relief to get the win.
Frank Palestro had two doubles for Hubbard.
West Branch 6, East Palestine 3
EAST PALESTINE -- Dave Kester had a single, a triple and three RBIs while Trent Woods and Willy Graham each added two hits with a double apiece for the Warriors (7-3).
Brad Bable doubled to lead the Bulldogs (6-2).
