Struthers' Bovo is winner at Salem

SALEM -- Struthers freshman pitcher Brittany Bovo improved to 2-0 by tossing a three-hitter Thursday as the Wildcats defeated Salem, 6-1.
Elyze Kunzer had two hits for Struthers while Bovo and Dom Martino each had RBI singles for the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0 Metro Athletic Conference). Martino scored two runs.
For Salem (3-2, 1-1), Brittany Gregory (3-1) took the loss and Stephanie Szabat had a RBI single.
Canfield 5, Howland 1
HOWLAND -- Lauren Sulick (1-0) scattered three hits and struck out 14 as the Cardinals opened their season and handed the Tigers (4-1) their first loss.
Brittany Danilov hit three singles, scored once and stole a base to spark the Cardinals. Melissa West hit a three-run triple in the sixth inning.
Abby Nicholas (1-1), in a losing cause, struck out six.
Chaney 16, Rayen 1
YOUNGSTOWN -- Terra Koontz and Sabrina Nacarato combined to pitch a one-hitter.
It was the first win of the season for the Cowboys who snapped a six-game losing streak.
Koontz worked the first three innings and struck out six to pick up the win. Nacarato pitched the fourth and fifth innings in relief and struck out four.
Katie Childers hit two singles, scored once, stole a base and drove in three runs for the Cowboys.
Mary Whieland hit a triple, double, scored once and drove in two runs.
Janora Sabo hit a two-run home run in the second inning and Koontz hit a pair of singles, scored three times, stole a base and drove in three runs.
Perry 5, Boardman 2
MASSILLON -- Massillon Perry scored three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth to turn back Boardman.
Alex Slates (2-1) worked six innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win for Perry (4-2, 2-0 Federal League).
Missy Petravich hit a pair of singles and drove in a run.
Nicole Williams (1-2) pitched five innings, allowed seven hits and struck out three in a losing cause for the Spartans (2-4, 0-2). Williams also hit three singles.
Jackson-Milton 7, Leetonia 3
LEETONIA -- Krista Kiraly (4-5) scattered four hits and struck out eight to pick up the win for the Bluejays (4-5).
Kortney Gherardi had three singles and drove in three runs, while Kara Conrad tripled and single and Billi Jo Byran hit two singles for the Bluejays.
The Bears fell to 2-5.
Western Reserve 18, Mineral Ridge 0
BERLIN CENTER -- The Blue Devils sent 15 batters to the plate in the first inning as they scored 11 runs.
McKenzie Mowery hit a single and triple and drove in four of those runs. She also singled later in the game to drive in another run.
Olivia Myers hit four singles, scored three times and drove in two runs.
Stevie Banks pitched no-hit softball through the first three innings, with five strikeouts. She also hit a pair of singles and drove in three runs.
Springfield 13, South Range 5
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Courtney Sheely had two doubles, a single and five RBIs while Christy Warren rapped five singles and drove in two runs to spark Springfield (3-3, 3-0 ICL). Lynn O'Connoll added two RBIs.
For South Range (0-3 ICL), Autumn Carter had a double, two singles and one RBI while Heather Stacy delivered a single, double and one RBI.
McDonald 3, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD -- Lauren Walls pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts and also slammed a triple and single with one RBI to lead McDonald (3-3).
Andrea Robison had two singles and one RBI to aid the Blue Devils.
Champion 14, Hubbard 6
CHAMPION -- Although outhit 11-10 by the Eagles, the Golden Flashes (6-1, 2-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference) scored four runs in the third and fourth innings, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to prevail.
Jaclyn Carpenter hit a home run and single to pace the Golden Flashes. Winning pitcher Katie Saluga, Cara Popadak and Emily Hayes each had two hits.
The Eagles slipped to 5-2 and 2-1.
Lakeview 2, Jefferson 0
CORTLAND -- Kailynn Cerny and fifth-inning reliever Abbey Bensing combined to pitch a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for Lakeview (7-1). Cerny had five strikeouts, Bensing four.
JoAanna Novotny had a double, single and one RBI for Springfield, while Angela DiCesare added two singles.
For Jefferson (2-3), Callie Busch had a single and double.
Marlington 3, West Branch 2
BELOIT -- Linda Bratten had three hits while Amanda Martin tripled and doubled for Marlington (5-1, 3-1 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).
Winning pitcher Kelly Schumacher struck out 13 batters.
For the Warriors (1-5, 0-4), Jessica Early had two hits.
