PREP TRACK Salem wins again at Cope meet

SALEM -- Paul Shivers and Mike Overholser placed 1-2 in the 3200-meter run, leading the Salem High boys track and field team to the championship of the F.E. Cope Invitational Friday at Reilly Stadium.
Shivers finished in 10 minutes, 0.6 seconds, and Overholser was clocked in 10:14.3, as the Quakers scored 128 points to outdistance Warren Harding, with 82 points.
Salem successfully defended its title in the Cope event.
Aiman Scullion (4:26.9) and Patrick Gorby (4:33.3) of the Quakers placed first and second, respectively, in the 1600. Gorby (2:02.3) and Scullion (2:02.5) were 1-2 in the 800.
Jeremiah Folger of Salem won the shot put (49 feet, 7 2/3 inches) and teammate Tyler Pierce took first place in the high jump (6-2).
Dominates sprints
Jay Provitt of Warren Harding won the 100 (10.7) and the 200 (22.2) and he was a member of the Raiders' 4x100 (43.2) and 4x200 (1:30.8) relays.
Christopher Rucker of the Raiders was second in the (10.9) and the 200 (22.8). He was also a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Other members were of the 4x100 relay were Daniel Herron and Brandon Davis, and Darren Lee and Herron helped make up the 4x200 relay.
Howland's Bryan Albani took first place in the 110 hurdles (15.2) and the 300 hurdles (40.8).
Adam Kagarise of Fitch took first place in the 400 (51.9), while Sam Cassano of the Falcons won the discus (175-2).
Holland Thomas, Joseph Copploe, Drew Banyon and Matt Firment of McDonald took first (8:42.1) in the 4x800 relay.
David Burke of Hudson, which finished third with 73 points, won the long jump (20-4 1/4). Hudson's 4x400 relay took first place in 3:39.5.
