ON THE SIDE. . .
This and that from the world of Valley politics.
WHAT'S IN A NAME? Timothy Franken, a 7th District Court of Appeals candidate, held a fundraiser earlier this week at the Maronite Center. In a Democratic judicial primary where name recognition is almost everything, it's nice to have your name on heavily-traveled Meridian Road. The only problem is whoever put up the sign has a little trouble with Franken's name recognition. The name on the sign was spelled "Frankin."
Candidates forum: The West Side Citizens Coalition will hold a candidates forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Italian-American Club on Meridian Road. All candidates in the May primary are invited to speak. Only those in the 60th Ohio House District and Mahoning County commissioner races will be asked questions.
Door-to-door: Canvassers for state Sen. Charlie Wilson's campaign knocked on 5,000 doors to educate voters to write-in his name in the Democratic primary for the 6th Congressional District. There's plenty more work to be done. In 2002, the last year there was a primary in the district held the same day as statewide elections, about 50,000 Democrats voted.
