GM Lordstown plans for 40th anniversary
LORDSTOWN -- To take advantage of summer weather, GM Lordstown's 40th anniversary car show and open house are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 30 and July 1 at the assembly plant.
GM employees, their families and retirees will be invited June 30, and the celebration for the general public will be July 1.
Models of every vehicle ever made at Lordstown will be displayed.
The outdoor event will also feature antique cars, exhibits concerning auto manufacturing and safe driving, and fund raising for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Northeast Ohio.
The Lordstown plant has built almost 14 million vehicles since the first car -- a Chevrolet Impala -- rolled off its assembly line April 28, 1966.
It boasts "the largest single-line assembly facility in the world," said Tom Mock, GM Lordstown communications manager.
