Cardinals defeat Quakers by 3-1



Niles outscored Campbell while Boardman defeated Fitch.
SALEM -- Salem High baseball pitcher Bryan Wright tossed a no-hitter for six innings but trailed 2-0.
The Quakers were unable to overcome that deficit Thursday as Canfield posted a 3-1 victory.
The Cardinals took the lead with two unearned runs in the fourth inning.
Wright and Jarin Heath tossed a two-hitter as the Quakers (4-2, 1-2 Metro Athletic Conference) gave up a run in the seventh inning on Brett Grabman's RBI single. C.J. Morris broke up the no-hitter.
Ben Miller had two hits for Salem.
Drew Turocy pitched six innings and picked up the win as he and D.J. Haurin scattered five hits for the Cards (2-1, 1-0).
Niles 8, Campbell 4
CAMPBELL -- The Red Dragons (8-1, 2-0 MAC) had 12 hits and Anthony Ragozine pitched a two-hitter.
Sean Cleary had three hits while Joe Razzano, Robbie Porter, Anthony Roberts and Pat DiChristofaro each had two. Matt Vince had three RBIs. Ragozine struck out seven but also walked seven.
Campbell's hits were by Richie Tisone and Dan Sacui. Lonnie McQueen struck out six and walked five for the Red Devils (1-4), who committed three errors.
Struthers 4, Columbiana 2
COLUMBIANA -- After an 0-6 start, Struthers has bounced back to win two straight.
Pinch-hitter Dennis Walton's two-run single in the top of the sixth knocked in the go-ahead runs for the Wildcats (2-6). Walton, a junior, enable Steve Streb and Tristan Sechora to score.
Streb and Ryan Stanko each doubled in the game which follows Struthers' win over Salem.
In pitching a three-hitter, senior Chris Kadvan struck out five and walked three.
Boardman 3, Fitch 1
BOARDMAN -- Kevin Sikora (1-0) struck out eight batters and walked none in pitching the complete game victory. Anthony Porter doubled for the Spartans (3-1, 1-1 Federal League).
For the Falcons (3-2, 1-1), Steve Gruver (0-1) gave up five hits and whiffed seven.
Ursuline 15, Mooney 7
STRUTHERS -- The score was tied 4-4 after the first inning, the Ursuline sent 13 batters to the plate in the second to put the Steel Valley Conference game out of reach at Cene Park.
Matt Yarab hit a bases-loaded triple to feature the big inning, while Joe Wielbruda singled and scored, reached base on an error and scored again and Ryan Saterlee hit a pair of singles.
Saterlee scored three times during the contest, and Eddi Rohan had 2 RBIs.
Mooney (0-1 SVC) outhit the Irish 11-9 with Dan McCloud hitting a double, two singles and driving in three runs. Mark Thomas and Dan Gallagher hit two singles apiece.

McDONALD -- Incomplete details were reported.
Western Reserve 11,Mineral Ridge 3
MINERAL RIDGE -- John Porterfield (1-0, seven strikeouts) and Jeff Zatchok (three strikeouts) combined on the mound for the Blue Devils (4-4, 2-1 Inter-County League).
Zatchok had two hits while Jerod Barker and Dave Drevna doubled.
The Rams are 2-3, 1-1.
Springfield 2, South Range 1
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Although Springfield (6-1, 3-0 ICL) didn't get its first hit until the bottom of the sixth inning, it helped the outcome for the Tiger (6-1, 3-0 ICL).
With the score tied, 1-1, junior Dane Dobson had a two-out base hit in the bottom of the sixth. Dobson scored on a triple by Andy Richey, also a junior.
Springfield's first run was in the third inning on an error following a walk by junior Bobby Rogers.
Range's Jeff Pilcher threw the six-inning two-hitter and finished with nine strikeouts and one walk.
Also for the Raiders, Joel Melnick had two singles and Tom Viroschak had South Range's RBI.
Lowellville 10, Southern 4
SALINEVILLE -- John Opincarne had had a double, single and four RBIs while John Wilaj socked a two-run homer and double to pace Lowellville (4-2).
Justin Macella and sixth-inning reliever Jared Donatelli combined to pitch a five-hitter for the Rockets. Macella is 2-0.
Donatelli also had two doubles and Dave Harris two singles to aid the winners.
Champion 10, Hubbard 2
HUBBARD -- The Golden Flashes scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the second, and they pounded out 17 hits to cruise to the victory.
Anthony Maruca hit a triple and three singles and drove in three runs for the Golden Flashes (3-1, 2-0 Trumbull Athletic Conference). Andy Kalman hit a triple and two singles and drove in two runs.
Marc Kanetsky and Mark Carnahan led the Eagles (2-6, 0-2) with two hits apiece.
Liberty 5, Newton Falls 2
LIBERTY -- Sam Barker pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts while Justin Barker slammed a two-run double to lead Liberty (3-1, 2-0 TAC).
Pymatuning Valley 1,Mathews 0
VIENNA -- Mustangs pitcher Adam Collier tossed a three-hitter in a losing effort. He struck out three opponents.
Pymatuning Valley is 2-1, 1-0 in the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Mathews drops to 1-5, 1-1.
Lordstown 15, Southington 6
SOUTHINGTON -- Brandon Wickline pitched a six-hitter with 19 strikeouts.
Wickline also slammed a double and single, and had two RBIs to lead Lordstown (2-1) in a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Jimmy Taylor contributed two doubles, two singles, two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base to pace Lordstown. Ben Gibson, Zack Sutliff, Jake Schofer and Nate Rech also sparkled.
Gibson had a double, two singles and one RBI to bolster the Red Devils, while Schofer had two singles and two RBIs, and Rech two singles and two RBIs.
Ryan Hall had two singles and two RBIs for Southington.
Alliance 5, West Branch 4
ALLIANCE -- Evan Campbell had two hits, and Josh Winans had two RBIs, but the Warriors committed three errors against the Aviators, who scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to take the lead.
Ryan Nordquest had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs for Alliance. Starter Andrew Hendershot didn't figure in the decision, but he did strike out nine.
