Boardman man charged in East Side crash

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Boardman man faces several charges after his car crashed on the city's East Side.
Police said they found Jonathon L. Gronvall, 18, of Stratmore Avenue dazed and incoherent around 11:20 a.m. Thursday after his car hit trees in a lot at Shehy and Rose streets.
Police said the car was still in drive and the engine running. Gronvall had a hypodermic syringe with a bent needle in his right hand, and fresh needle marks on his left arm. There was part of a hypodermic syringe on the floor near the accelerator pedal.
Police charged Gronvall with driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug of abuse, a seat-belt violation, failure to control and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said additional charges may be forthcoming after identification of a light-brown powder they found folded in newspaper and tucked in a small storage compartment of the dashboard. Police said the powder may be a controlled substance.
