WARREN -- "We're hoping people realize that this is the greatest gift ... the gift of salvation," said Tammy Foley, music director at First Assembly of God, said of the message in "The Greatest Sacrifice."
The presentation will be staged at 7 p.m. today and 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 2640 Parkman Road N.W.
About 100 people, ranging from age 5 to 80-something, are participating in the production. There are 17 speaking parts in the show, which deals with the passion of Christ, Foley said.
The Easter cantata and a Christmas program are the two biggest productions at the church.
Foley said ideas for the Easter program are discussed soon after the Christmas events are concluded. Rehearsals have been going on since February. The choir rehearses twice a week while the actors, depending on scenes, rehearse once a week.
While Foley concentrates on the music, other church members contribute their talents to the script, costumes, sets and other work behind the scenes.
Musical selections
Foley said the music is selected from various appropriate soundtracks. She said various companies offer specific music for such productions. "I get the demos and listen to them and pick and choose from that," Foley said. "I put it together. ... I think it has a personal touch."
Foley said the lyrical music covers a wide range and includes Jewish and contemporary selections. "There's a variety," she said of the songs that include "Broken for You," "Crucify Him," "He Reigns, He Lives" and "Shout for Joy."
An added element to the production is the hearing-impaired ministry that is provided. "Someone signs throughout the show," Foley said. "We also have someone offering sign language at every service, so we're accustomed to it."
A nursery also will be provided.
