3-county unit honors Campbell educator

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Lorinda Hess of Campbell, Ohio, has been presented with the 2006 Annual Leadership Award by the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV.
Hess is director of continuing education at the intermediate unit, which provides educational services to schools in Mercer, Lawrence and Butler counties.
The award was created to honor an individual who fosters and promotes the role and vision of a regional service agency. Hess was selected for this honor by a committee of her peers to receive the seventh annual award presented by the agency.
She was cited for her work in online learning and the Adult Basic Education program, helping to create the intermediate unit's eLearning Center for teachers and pupils. The eLearning Center offers credit courses for teachers wishing to earn required Act 48 credits, as well as supplemental courses for pupils.
"In one way or another, each of us at the IU is here to help people learn," wrote Patricia Kriley, director of federal programs at the intermediate unit, in a testimonial to Hess. "As program administrator of the Adult Basic Education program, Lorinda supports nontraditional adult learners in their quest for personal knowledge and gainful employment."
Lorinda operates ABE and GED programs in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
She received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Youngstown State University in 1986 and a master's in education from Westminster College in 1991.
