KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Ivan Rodriguez was 5-for-5 with a single, homer, three doubles and five RBIs, leading Detroit to a rout of Kansas City. Rodriguez had an RBI double in a three-run first inning, singled in the third and made it 6-0 in the fifth with a two-run homer off loser Joe Mays. He hit an opposite-field double into the right-field corner in the seventh and doubled over the outstretched glove of Emil Brown in the eighth. Brandon Inge, Marcus Thames, Curtis Granderson and Carlos Guillen also homered for the Tigers, who got 19 hits and improved to 2-0 under new manager Jim Leyland. Winner Jeremy Bonderman gave up one run and three hits in 62/3 innings, striking out eight.
Mariners 6, Angels 4
SEATTLE -- Jarrod Washburn struck out seven of his former teammates and allowed two runs in seven innings. Richie Sexson and Raul Ibanez each drove in two runs for Seattle, which won twice in the opening three-game series. Jeff Weaver gave up five runs and nine hits in 61/3 innings. Tim Salmon and Orlando Cabrera homered for Los Angeles. George Sherrill got three outs for his first save in 52 career appearances.
Orioles 16, Devil Rays 6
BALTIMORE -- Jay Gibbons homered and drove in four runs, and Baltimore used a 16-hit attack to breeze past Tampa Bay. Melvin Mora and rookie Nick Markakis homered, Ramon Hernandez went 2-for-2 with two walks and three RBIs, and Brian Roberts had two hits and three RBIs. Hernandez has yet to make an out this season. Erik Bedard allowed three runs, three walks and eight hits in five innings to get the win. Jorge Cantu homered and Toby Hall had two RBIs for the Devil Rays. Seth McClung gave up seven runs and a career-high seven walks in three-plus innings.
Twins 13, Blue Jays 4
TORONTO -- Torii Hunter hit a grand slam and tied a career high with six RBIs for the Twins. Hunter went 4-for-5 and scored three runs. His fifth career grand slam in the eighth against Jason Frasor gave Minnesota a 12-4 lead. Shannon Stewart and Luis Rodriguez also homered for the Twins. New acquisitions Troy Glaus and Lyle Overbay hit back-to-back homers in the first inning for the Blue Jays. Minnesota starter Brad Radke got off to rough start, allowing three runs in the first. But Radke settled down -- allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking none in six innings. Toronto's Josh Towers allowed five runs -- four earned -- and 10 hits in 42/3 innings.
Red Sox 2, Rangers 1
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Josh Beckett pitched seven innings to win his Boston debut and Trot Nixon hit a two-run homer. Beckett got off to a rocky start, allowing a leadoff double by Brad Wilkerson before throwing a wild pitch and allowing Michael Young's infield RBI single. But the Rangers got only one runner to third base against Beckett after that. Beckett allowed a run and scattered seven hits. He had five strikeouts and one walk, throwing 75 of his 109 pitches for strikes. Texas starter Kameron Loe allowed two runs and six hits over 62/3 innings, with one strikeout and three walks.

Cardinals 4, Phillies 3
PHILADELPHIA -- Yadier Molina's two-out RBI single off Tom Gordon in the ninth inning lifted St. Louis to the win. Jimmy Rollins extended his hitting streak to 38 games with a double in the first inning for the Phillies. He finished 2-for-4 with two doubles. Skip Schumaker hit his first career homer and Albert Pujols again went deep for the Cardinals. Winner Brad Thompson pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Jason Isringhausen escaped a jam in the ninth to get his first save. Philadelphia's David Bell hit a tying, two-run homer off Mark Mulder in the seventh inning.
Reds 8, Cubs 6
CINCINNATI -- Bronson Arroyo hit his first career homer during his first start for Cincinnati. Ken Griffey Jr. moved ahead of two Yankees with his first home run of the season. His solo shot was his 537th, breaking a tie with Mickey Mantle for 12th place. It also provided his 1,538th RBI, moving him ahead of Joe DiMaggio for 31st on that list. Arroyo (1-0) allowed five runs -- three earned -- and six hits in 62/3 innings. He had been 4-for-55 (.073) with 33 strikeouts before his home run. David Weathers pitched the ninth for his first save. Glendon Rusch (0-1) gave up four runs and six hits in four innings.
Nationals 9, Mets 5
NEW YORK -- Ryan Zimmerman hit a tying homer in the ninth off new Mets closer Billy Wagner, and Jose Guillen hit a go-ahead, two-run shot off loser Jorge Julio in the 10th. Nick Johnson's three-run drive in the sixth started Washington's comeback from a 4-0 deficit against Brian Bannister, who made his major league debut. Left fielder Alfonso Soriano departed in the sixth, four innings after he was hit in the helmet by a pitch from Bannister. Carlos Delgado hit a two-run homer for his first hit with the Mets, and Xavier Nady also connected off starter John Patterson. Chad Cordero worked a scoreless ninth for the win, escaping a bases-loaded jam when Paul Lo Duca lined out.
Astros 6, Marlins 5
HOUSTON -- Lance Berkman and Preston Wilson hit two-run homers as Houston built a 6-1 lead. Craig Biggio had two hits and scored two runs for the defending NL champions. Winner Wandy Rodriguez, who replaced scheduled starter Brandon Backe, allowed four runs and seven hits in his first outing since relieving a hobbled Roger Clemens in Game 1 of the World Series. Backe sat out with a sore back on his 28th birthday but said he'll start Friday against Washington. Brad Lidge got Josh Willingham to ground out with runners on first and second in the ninth to get his second save.
