Herberger's 3-hitter leads Mooney to win
Krista Kiraly pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for Jackson-Milton.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Kelcie Herberger threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts, lifting Mooney past South Range 6-1 in a high school softball game Tuesday.
Herberger (2-0) also had a triple, three singles, scored a run and drove in a run for the Cardinals (4-2). Laura Guyer got Mooney's key hit, a bases-loaded triple to highlight a six-run fourth inning.
For South Range (0-2-1), sophomore Autumn Carter had an RBI double.
Lakeview 7, Ursuline 4
CORTLAND -- Angela DiCesare homered and drove in two runs and Lakeview rallied from a 4-1 deficit with a six-run fifth inning.
Michelle Antonelli had two hits, including a triple, for the Bulldogs (6-1). Natalie Palermo doubled and drove in two for the Irish (4-2).
Lowellville 12, Rayen 2
LOWELLVILLE -- Lowellville (6-1) had only four hits, but took advantage of seven errors and 19 stolen bases in a game called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
Juniors Carla Blinsky and Cori Smith each added a double for the Rockets, who stole home six times.
Dejan Toney had a double and a single for Rayen.
Jackson-Milton 6, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD -- Krista Kiraly pitched a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts for the Bluejays (3-5).
Kara Conrad hit a double and drove in three runs, while Carrie Fiol and Jody Richmond each added a pair of singles for Jackson-Milton.
The Warriors are 0-3.
Girard 5, Campbell 4
GIRARD -- Sophomore Kristin Helle's game-winning single drove in freshman Emily Smerchansky with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning with one out.
Helle and Kelley Bondor each had a double and single for the Indians (2-6).
Tracey Apgar had a triple and a single for Campbell (1-3).
Hubbard 3, Springfield 2
HUBBARD -- Gabby Flynn (4-1) pitched a six-hitter for Hubbard, which scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Corrie Gasser and two doubles for Hubbard (5-1) while Michelle Stipetich had a run-scoring double.
Colleen Platt threw a four-hitter for Springfield.
Mathews 3, Southington 2
VIENNA -- The Mustangs (3-1, 1-0) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of a Northeastern Athletic Conference game.
Amber Jarvis, who had two hits, singled with one out in the seventh. She stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Rachel Woolf.
Woolf led the Mustangs with three singles. Southington slipped to 2-2, 0-1.
Howland 8, Liberty 2
HOWLAND -- The Tigers (4-0) scored all of their runs in the first four innings. Gia Pahoulis hit a double, two singles, scored twice and stole three bases for Howland. Winning pitcher Casey Haering (1-0) scattered four hits and struck out six to pick up the win. Desiree Sibera hit a pair of singles.
East Palestine 3, Crestview 1
EAST FAIRFIELD -- Sarah Downey's two run-single in the top of the eighth inning scored Becky Hill and Jen Yokely to lift East Palestine in a Tri-County League game.
Hill had two singles for the Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0). Chelsea Peterson (3-1) pitched a four-hitter for East Palestine, while Jessica Sferra took the loss with a three-hitter for Crestview (2-3, 1-2).
Columbiana 12, Southern 0
SALINEVILLE -- Steph Ciardi had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Paige Papania and Kristen Hart each added two hits to lead Columbiana (5-2, 4-0).
Kayla Seybert struck out two and gave up just three hits in five innings.
Chelsea Anderson doubled for Southern (0-6, 0-4), while Hannah Crews had 11 strikeouts.
Louisville 11, West Branch 1
BELOIT -- Katie Woolf hit two doubles and drove in five runs for the Leopards. Kelsie Hermon hit four singles and Lindsey Hostetler two.
Becky Rinyo led the Warriors with two singles.
Akron Springfield 9, Southeast 0
AKRON -- Stephanie Cain (2-0) worked a complete game for Springfield, pitching a two-hitter and striking out 12.
Kelsie Archer hit a single and double and Brittany Westfall two singles for Springfield (2-0).
Jen Gahagan hit a double for Southeast (1-4).
