Harding's Provitt among featured athletes at F.E. Cope Invitational



SALEM -- Jay Provitt of Warren Harding, the MVP of the running events at last week's Ward Invitational, will be the featured sprinter in the F.E. Cope boys invitational track and field meet Friday at Reilly Stadium.
Athletes representing 14 schools will compete with preliminaries in the field events set for 4 p.m. and sprints and hurdles at 4:15. Finals will follow semifinals.
Salem, with a veteran squad, is the defending champions. Other schools entered are Canfield, Fitch, Mooney, Bedford Chanel, Howland, Hudson, Leetonia, McDonald, Poland, Rayen, Springfield and Wilson.
Poland to defend title
EAST PALESTINE -- Lauren Fithian of Poland High School will be featured in the distance runs and Amber Ferraro in the hurdles as the Bulldogs defend their title when the 33rd East Palestine girls invitational track and field meet is held Saturday in Bulldog Stadium.
Boardman, Fitch, Mooney, Canfield, Cleveland Collinwood and Salem will contend for team laurels.
Preliminaries in the sprints, hurdles and field events will get the meet underway at 9 a.m. The 3200-meter run final is set for 10:30 and the rest of the running finals will start at 1 p.m.
Other schools entered are East Palestine, Badger, Beaver Local, Uniontown Lake, Leetonia, United and Wilson.
