Grisdale will remain Poland's boys coach

Superintendent Dr. Robert L. Zorn said Grisdale's job was not in jeopardy.
VINDICATOR STAFF REPORT
POLAND -- Poland school officials have ended their silence on the rumors swirling around the status of boys varsity basketball coach Ken Grisdale.
Wednesday, Dr. Robert L. Zorn, Poland superintendent, issued a press release saying Grisdale's contract as coach is not in jeopardy of being non-renewed.
The Bulldogs went 9-13 this season.
On March 28, board member Frank DiVito told The Vindicator that there had been discussions about Grisdale's contract, but nothing was decided.
"Rumors to this effect have been circulating the past several weeks and are unfounded," Zorn said in the statement.
Winningest coach ever
Grisdale has been the Bulldogs' coach for 13 seasons and is the winningest coach in the school's history. His record is 201 wins and 97 losses.
"I'm elated with the fact that this is over," said Grisdale who is completing his 19th year of teaching at Poland High. "I'm looking forward to my 14th season because I still have a passion to coach.
"I enjoy the kids we have," said Grisdale who has taught world history, government and economics at Poland. "We can't wait to get them into the gym and focusing on what's important."
From 2002-05, Grisdale's team won three district titles.
In 2002, the Bulldogs won the regional tournament then lost to LeBron James' Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary team in the state semifinals.
Also coached track
For five seasons, Grisdale was also Poland's varsity track coach.
Zorn said the Poland Board "scrutinizes all supplemental contracts every year and sometimes rumors start from this process."
Also, Atty. Jamie Dunn, Poland's long-time girls varsity coach, has resigned. Zorn said the rumors about Grisdale may have been fueled by Dunn's resignation.
In 1998 and 200, Dunn's teams advanced to the Division II state semifinals.
