Guilty plea nets man 4 years in Niles shooting

WARREN -- A 38-year-old Elm Road Northeast man accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced to four years in prison for shooting a Niles man in the upper leg and stomach.
The shooting occurred at a house on Mason Street in Niles on Nov. 20.
Maurice Moore pleaded guilty Monday to charges of aggravated robbery, felonious assault and kidnapping, all with specifications that the crimes were committed with a firearm. The firearm specifications added a year to his prison sentence.
The case was heard in the Trumbull County Common Pleas courtroom of Judge Andrew Logan.
Niles police said the male victim came home around 1 a.m. that day. Moore then appeared and demanded money before shooting him, police said.
Chris Becker, assistant Trumbull County prosecutor, said in exchange for the guilty plea, the prosecutor's office agreed to recommend one year on the gun specifications instead of three.
He said the kidnapping charge stemmed from Moore's ordering the victim to go from the driveway to the porch. A female accomplice in the crime and a witness have not been located, Becker said.
