City firefighters worry about arsons
YOUNGSTOWN -- Firefighters were kept busy over the weekend with deliberately set fires and one attempted arson. Reports show the following activity Sunday:
At 11:22 p.m., crews responded to 936 Margaret St. on the South Side and discovered a Molotov cocktail had been thrown at the house, but no fire resulted. Firefighters collected a jar with a gasoline rag.
At 9:16 p.m., fire was reported at 465 Sherwood Ave., a vacant house on the South Side. Neighbors said they saw someone walking inside the house earlier and then heard an explosion. Damage was set at $16,000.
At 6:39 a.m., crews responded to a fire in a vacant house at 3138 Hudson Ave. on the South Side. Damage was set at $46,000, a total loss.
At 3:37 a.m., fire was reported at 24 McGuffey Road, a vacant house on the East Side. Damage was estimated at $8,000, a total loss.
At 1:47 a.m., fire was reported at 3501 Hudson Ave., a vacant house on the South Side. Damage was listed at $5,000. Records show the house valued at $12,700.
