Two rising political stars

Two rising political stars
EDITOR:
It is time we sit back and take notice of the two young rising stars in the politics of our community and congratulate them for a job well done.
Mayor Jay Williams has shown in the short time he has been in office that his best interest is for the City of Youngstown. He is not afraid to take the bull by the horns and make changes that will make Youngstown a better, more inviting place to live and do business. It is so refreshing to see a young person with fresh ideas and a sense of what is right for the community and not have such a huge ego like so many of our career politicians who jump from one elected job to the next. Their only interest is living off the taxpayers' dollars.
We can put Commissioner John McNally right at the top of the list next to Jay Williams. John believes in going by the book and following procedures on how the county should be operated. He is able to intelligently express himself and gets his point across. I saw John on Channel 19 last week and he was outstanding.
I see John filed his petition to run for State Central Committeeman. It is time we send our young people out to represent us and retire the old politicians and old ideas and old politics. A prime example is Jay Williams -- not too well known and an independent -- but look at the great job he is doing.
If you want to make a difference, get out and vote and see if your neighbor needs a ride to the polls. How about the young? Why aren't you voting? It is exciting on Election Day when you see that the majority of the votes are from senior citizens. They come on crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs. But they come to do their civic duty. How about you? Will you spare a few minutes of your time? Will you make a difference? Every vote counts.

EDITOR:
As a young man growing up in America I never dreamed that our wonderful country would some day take the course of action that it is pursuing today. I, like so many others of my counterparts, volunteered to join the armed forces during World War II. We did it to preserve the many things that we held dear to us here in America. At that time life was much simpler and decency prevailed. Today we have become a hedonistic society that would have appalled our Founding Fathers. America was based upon Judeo-Christian values and ethics. As a result our nation thrived under those teachings and standards.
President George Washington ("the father of our country") was a very pious man who traveled miles through the snow on horseback to attend services on Sunday. He was known to ask the pastor if he served communion at his services. When he was assured that communion would be served, he would take a seat. He was reported to read from the scriptures to the congregation during the services.
American juris prudence was based on Judeo-Christian principals. These teachings were based on the Ten Commandments. Our forefathers would certainly be appalled if they knew the course that this country is following today.
The problems began in the "swinging sixties" which ushered in the sexual revolution. This resulted in an epidemic of marital infidelity, illegitimacy, abortion, and sexually transmitted diseases. Pandora's Box was largely the result of the unelected judicial activists who struck down ruling after ruling that has completely altered the mores of our country and misinterpreted the Constitution. We have become an amoral society today. These new rules allow children to purchase assault weapons to commit murder and mayhem. They have struck down marital laws, condoned homosexuality and homosexual marriages, taken away parental control of the family and disrupted society in general.
I would like to see the judicial system compelled to conform to ethical standards and the doctrines set forth by the Constitution of the United States of America.
