MAHONING DEMS

MAHONING DEMS
Proposed changes
In addition to restoring endorsements, Mahoning Democratic precinct committee members will vote on other constitutional changes. They include:
The elimination of the party's six standing committees: Elections, crime, education, economic development, community service and minority relations. Instead, the party chair could create ad-hoc committees and appoint their members.
Changing the names and responsibilities of party officers. The first vice chair would become executive vice chair, and would serve as the party's liaison with local Democratic clubs. The second vice chair would become vice chair in charge of labor relations, and the third vice chair would become vice chair in charge of minority affairs.
The positions of corresponding secretary, liaison to city officials, liaison to township officials and liaison to county officials would be eliminated. The positions of secretary and treasurer would remain.
Making the terms of all party officers four years. Only party chair currently serves a four-year term with the others serving for two years.
Eliminating term limits for party chair. The party chair is allowed to serve no more than two four-year terms under a 1999 change to the constitution.
