YOUNGSTOWN -- Some area rock bands are hoping their participation in a Beatles tribute album will gain them new fans.
The album, titled "Majestical Mystery Tour," is available on the Web site of the Infidels (www.infidelicious.com) for $12.
According to David Lisko of the Infidels, "Our label [Majestic] thought it would be a good idea to put out a CD that would include area bands that we liked."
The reasons, according to Lisko, are "to give bands a new product to promote; build support for each other, as opposed to jealousy, animosity and competition; and, most importantly, to introduce fans of one band to the other bands on the disc.
"For example," said Lisko, "let's say someone out there really likes the Infidels. So this person picks up the CD because we're on it, but discovers he or she really likes the song by the Zou. Now that person goes to see the Zou when they play, and so on and so on."
Getting involved
The Infidels paid for everything except recording costs.
"We just wanted bands to get involved for the betterment of the local music community. The other bands paid nothing out of their pocket except for studio time," said Lisko.
There are 16 songs on the disc by 11 bands.
"Every band picked a song and did their own version -- some very true to form, others with a whole new spin," said Lisko.
In addition to the Web site, the CD will also be available at the Infidels' Oct. 15 show at the Cedars, 23 N. Hazel St., downtown.
"Every band got a bunch of copies to do what they want with them, but we're selling the rest, trying to recoup a little of the cost," said Lisko. "[The project is] definitely a money loser, but worth it if our grand scheme comes to fruition."
