PREP SOCCER Poland topples Canfield



The Bulldogs won 2-0 to continue undefeated in the MAC.
POLAND -- Senior forward Chris Juchno scored on an assist by senior midfielder-forward Dain Malaniak on Thursday as the Poland High boys soccer team defeated Canfield, 2-0.
Malaniak also tallied off of a corner kick for the Bulldogs (9-1, 6-0 Metro Athletic Conference).
Senior goalkeeper Caleb Markusic made four saves for Poland, while Ed Claton had five saves for Canfield.
Poland out-shot the Cardinals, 7-4.

Ursuline 5, Warren JFK 0
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lucas Gonzalez, Corey Mihaly, Justin Mihaly, Nick Clowes and Nick Celio scored for the Irish (8-3-1).
Luis Esparrra, Dan Grimes and Justin Mihaly each had an assist. Goalkeeper Airic Puhalla made five saves.
Ursuline took 21 shots on goal while Warren JFK had seven.
Goalkeeper Matt Kokrak made 16 saves for the Eagles (4-5-2).

KENT -- Sam Ragan and Bob Davis scored for the Spartans (7-3-2). Anthony Grenga and Nick Antonucci received assists.
Spartans goalkeeper Matt Moore made 11 saves while Kent (7-1-3) goalkeeper Matt Brenn made seven.

BELOIT -- Johnny Wallace and Clay Criss scored for the Warriors (9-1-2). Nathan Diehl and Wallace earned assists.
Goalkeeper Shane Young made four saves.

NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Liberty's 1-0 halftime lead didn't hold up as sophomores Katie Bretz and Melissa Huffman and junior Kayla Malloy scored second-half goals in Springfield's 3-1 victory.
Huffman's score came off of a corner kick. Sophomore Carrie Ritzler assisted on Malloy's goal.
The Tigers, a first-year club team, have a 7-2-2 record.
Springfield goalkeeper Courtney Paulin, a junior, made three saves.
Abby Davis scored the goal for Liberty.
Goalkeeper Michele Dykes made 12 saves.
Struthers 4, Youngstown Christian 3
Austintown -- Courtney Wolfcale scored three goals and an assist for Struthers in a game played at Highway Tabernacle.
Dayna Yash scored the other Struthers goal.
Sophomores Kara Cooper and Aly'cia Longmire and junior Arielle Flores scored for Youngstown Christian (3-7). Cooper also had an assist for the Eagles.
Goalkeeper Maddy Giancola made 18 saves for Struthers while Youngstown Christian's two junior keepers, Kathy Wengerd and Amanda Vestal, made 10 and eight saves, respectively.
