LOS ANGELES -- Steve Buscemi will collect honors during the sixth-annual Woodstock Film Festival. The festival, which started Wednesday and runs through Sunday, includes the films "Winter Passing," starring Zooey Deschanel, Will Ferrell and Ed Harris; Atom Egoyan's "Where the Truth Lies," starring Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth; and "Lonesome Jim," directed by Buscemi and starring Casey Affleck and Liv Tyler. Buscemi will receive the Maverick Award for creativity and independent vision.
Set for music awards
NEW YORK -- Mariah Carey, Kenny Chesney and Rob Thomas will perform at the 2005 American Music Awards. The awards will be presented Nov. 22 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles during a three-hour ABC-TV special hosted by Cedric the Entertainer. Additional artists will be added to the lineup and announced at a later date, ABC said Tuesday. Nominees in pop/rock, country, soul/rhythm & amp; blues, rap/hip-hop, Latin, alternative, contemporary inspirational and adult contemporary categories were chosen on the basis of record sales. Winners will be selected by a survey of about 20,000 listeners. Carey, Chesney and Thomas are among the nominees.
Couric speaks out
NEW YORK -- It turns out that morning-news-show divas have feelings too. Months after scathing news stories portrayed perky Katie Couric as a tyrannical prima donna, the "Today" show co-anchor has spoken out, admitting that the reports have gotten under her skin. "Nobody enjoys being trashed," she says in the latest issue of AARP the Magazine. "But it comes with success, with an increasingly snarky environment in the world today."
