30th anniversary reunion is planned
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 30th anniversary reunion for former pupils and staff of the Millcreek Children's Center will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the center, 44 Essex St.
Sally Stacy, development director, said Sister Jerome Corcoran, executive director, founded the original Millcreek Children's Center 30 years ago on Glenwood Avenue.
She is now 89 and still runs the center. She plans to attend the reunion to greet her former pupils and staff.
Stacy said the center is a nonprofit preschool for low-income working parents. She said its mission is to give preschool children a good start in life.
The benefits
Job and Family Services assists with reasonable rates and family discounts.
The Center offers preschool children small-group teaching, curriculum tailored to each child and programs such as field trips, outdoor play and golf instruction.
Preschool children receive hot meals, computer instruction, speech therapy, special-needs help, vision and hearing screening and dental service.
With a good preschool start, children can excel in kindergarten, and with success, be encouraged to stay in school in later years, Stacy said. With a good developmental and educational start, children may then be able to break the cycle of poverty and improve their lives, she said.
During Saturday's open house, there will be tours, refreshments and prizes. For more information, call Sally or Donna at (330) 746-7111.
