WEST CHICAGO, Ill. -- Youngstown State placed eighth at the 15-team John Dallio Memorial Tuesday at Prairie Landing Golf Club behind a strong performance by freshman Ryan Stocke.
Stocke, competing in his third collegiate meet, finished fourth with a 216.
The Penguins played consistent throughout the tournament with rounds of 300, 301 and 298 to finish with a three-round 899. St. Louis won the event with an 865 while Western Illinois was second and Cleveland St. placed third. YSU was in 10th following the first two rounds.
Stocke led the charge with his even-par 216, which was one stroke out of the third and two out of second. St. Louis' David Perritt won the event with a seven-under-par 209.
Senior Nate Komsa placed 19th with a three-round score of 222 (72-74-76), junior Jim Powers finished 34th carding a 227 (77-74-76), senior Josh Zarlenga came in 70th with a 239 (77-83-79) and Ryan McGraw was 73rd with a 240 (83-81-76).

Canfield girls golfwins MAC title
CANFIELD -- Canfield High's girls golf team defeated Howland 172-193 Tuesday to win the Metro Athletic Conference championship.
Jennifer Hudock shot 40 to lead the Cardinals (15-1, 8-0), coached by Diane McCall. Samantha Meier added a 42 and Ashley Frommelt and Christine Brown shot 45s.
Howland (14-3, 6-2) was led by Katie Jurenovich (41), while Rachel Skoczylas (47), Kelsey Ozanich (49) and Crystal Jamison (56) followed.
Two SteelHoundswith Barons
YOUNGSTOWN -- The SteelHounds AHL affiliate, the Cleveland Barons, began training camp Monday at their practice facility in Parma.
Of the 39 players competing in the Baron's training camp, two are contracted SteelHounds players -- defenseman Marc-Andre Roy and forward Darryl Lloyd.
The Barons will play in two exhibition games with 'Hounds players potentially suiting up. The first is Friday against Hamilton in Welland, Ont., and Saturday at Grand Rapids.
The SteelHounds begin training camp Oct. 10 at the Yo. Convocation Center.
Volleyball officials
The Mahoning Valley Volleyball Officials Association will meet at Denny's Restaurant on Mahoning Ave., Austintown at 7 p.m. Sunday for a rules meeting only.
The MVVOA Social will be held at Dino's Restaurant in North Jackson Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. The rules meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

WARREN -- Zack Page will be in action Saturday night as part of an eight bout card in Columbus.
Page (9-2, 4 knockouts) will be in a co-feature eight-rounder against Mike Alexander (9-0, 8 KOs) of Columbus.
The card is promoted by Powers Promotions with the main event co-feature a 10 round cruiserweight title bout for the NABA belt. It will have Chad Van Sickle (19-1-2, 11 KOs) from Grove City, Ohio against Jeff Yeuman (19-3, 8 KOs) from Lafayette, Ind.
A 10-round female WBC eliminator for 130-pounders will send Kelly Cofer (11-3-4, 3 KOs) from Willard, Ohio, against Angel McNamara (5-2-1, 2 KOs) from Baltimore.

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel senior defensive end Kevin Strouse was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week Tuesday.
Strouse, also named the Presidents' Athletic Conference defensive player of the week, recorded a school-record four quarterback sacks in the Tomcats' 41-7 win over Bethany.
Missouri Southern football coach dies
JOPLIN, Mo. -- Second-year Missouri Southern football coach John Ware died Tuesday of an apparent heart attack after collapsing at his desk.
Ware, 46, was discovered in his office after 10 a.m. Attempts to revive Ware by members of the coaching and training staff, as well as medical personnel, failed and he was rushed to Freeman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Ware died of an apparent heart attack, the school said.
An autopsy was scheduled for today. Assistant coach Keeth Matheny, who will take over as head coach, said Ware had experienced heart problems in the past.
