Underground Railroad exhibit to open Oct. 15

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County Historical Society will celebrate the grand opening of its Lawrence Country Underground Railroad exhibit Oct. 15.
A display, organized and researched by the executive director Robert Presnar, includes artifacts, photographs of homes in the Underground Railroad in Lawrence County, and information on the importance of the Rev. A.B. Bradford and the White Church in New Castle to the Underground Railroad movement.
Coffee and donuts will be served at the Lawrence County Historical Society, 408 N. Jefferson St., at 10 a.m. The event will then proceed with a tour of an Underground Railroad building in Beaver County. The New Castle Transit Authority will provide free bus service from New Castle to Greersburg Academy in Darlington, leaving at 11 a.m. and returning at 1 p.m.
Lunch will then be served at the historical society. The grand opening of the exhibit will be at 2:15 p.m.
Civil War music by local violinists will provide background to the display.
