Kent Trumbull Theatre will present 'Rage'

CHAMPION -- Kent Trumbull Theatre will present a performance of Awele Makeba's groundbreaking one-woman show: "Rage is Not Just a One Day Thing."
The performance, directed by Benny Sato Ambush, will be at 3 p.m. Oct. 9 in the KSU-TC Theater. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged. Call (330) 847-8700.
"Rage" is a tale of courage, community and civil disobedience. It condenses eight years of Montgomery, Ala., history, culminating in the 1955-1956 bus boycott and the overturning of the "separate but equal" Plessy decision.
Awele plays a dozen women, men and teenagers, including 15-year old Claudette Colvin, who refused to give up her seat on a bus nine months before Rosa Parks' famous arrest for the same act, and JoAnn Robinson, the inspiring President of the Women's Political Council.
"Rage" explores how heroism is daily, how courage is a simple matter of taking a stand according to your principles, and how ordinary people took direct action to achieve full citizenship.
Using oral histories, court transcripts, interviews and memoirs, "Rage" challenges our collective memory 50 years after the fact.
