Jake Lape places first, leads Boardman to title



Mooney won the girls crown while Lauren Agnew was the top finisher.
AUSTINTOWN -- Jake Lape took first place in 16 minutes, 31 seconds, leading the Boardman High cross country team to the Mahoning County Cross Country Championships Tuesday at Austintown Township Park.
The Spartans, who scored 45 points, placed four runners in the top 12 places, with Rick Lape (16:44) placing third, Dom Corso (17:33) 11th and Adam Haushalter (17:44) 12th.
Jimmy Ramson (16:39) of Poland was second and Colin Durina (16:48) of Mooney was fourth.
Canfield finished second with 64 points and Poland was third with 93.
Boardman's Agnew wins
Freshman Lauren Agnew (19:51) of Boardman took first place in the girls run, but Cardinal Mooney won the championship with 47 points. Poland was second with 87.
Mooney was led by Lauren Finnerty (20:45) who was fourth, while Christina Oles (20:45) was fifth, Angela Urchak (21:10) ninth and Andrea Firth (21:35), 13th.
Kayla Witmer (20:08) of South Range placed second and Samantha Hamilton (20:28) of Jackson-Milton finished third.
Columbiana County
EAST PALESTINE -- The Salem girls scored 16 points as they took the top four spots in capturing the Columbiana County Meet at East Palestine City Park.
Liz Shivers (20:27) of the Quakers won the run, with teammates Deidra Clary (20:31), Alexis Thorne (21:01) and Lauren Shivers (21:27) in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
The Quakers' boys won the title with 29 points and Lisbon was second with 75.
East Palestine's Scott Wolfe (18:27) took first place in the run and Kyle Crismon (18:31) was second. Salem's Joe Shivers (18:38) finished third and the Quakers' Justin Roberts (18:43) and Ryan Griffith (18:44) were fourth and fifth respectively.
Trumbull County
CORTLAND -- Andy Morgan (16:26) and Andy Arnio (16:27) placed 1-2, leading Maplewood to the boys title with 31 points at Maplewood High.
Joe Copploe (16:57) was fourth and Taylor Sowers (17:17) fifth as they helped McDonald to second place with 87 points.
Ryan Gilanyi (16:51) of Southington took third place.
McDonald won the girls title with 33 points and Maplewood was second with 61.
Rochelle Rupe (20:01) of Maplewood took first place. Samantha Bonart (20:37) of Badger was second and Callie Garland (20:57) of McDonald was third.
