Bond set at $500,000 for man charged in vehicular homicide

YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond is set at $500,000 for Edwin Moran Jr., charged with aggravated vehicular homicide.
Moran, 25, of Monroe Street, Campbell, was arraigned Monday in municipal court. Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly said if he makes bond he must be placed on electronically monitored house arrest.
She ordered that he not be released from the jail unless he posts bond. The jail has an emergency release plan to ease overcrowding.
Moran is accused of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he crashed into a car driven by Angela Daltorio last Friday. Daltorio, 54, of Boardman, died at the scene on Oakwood and Hazelwood avenues.
Bassil Ally, an assistant city prosecutor, said Moran's blood-alcohol content registered 0.202 and he had marijuana and Valium in his system. The legal alcohol limit is 0.08.
Ally told the judge that Moran made derogatory statements at the crash scene about the victim.
Misdemeanor charges of DUI and failure to stop for a red light were dismissed Monday with the idea they could be filed later. Ally said he didn't want the traffic charges to interfere with the felony aggravated vehicular homicide charge.
Moran will be back in court Oct. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
